LAURA HACKETT WAS BORN IN VANCOUVER, BC. SHE LIVES IN WHITE ROCK AND TEACHES PHOTO DESIGN, GRAPHIC DESIGN AND VISUAL ARTS FOR THE SURREY SCHOOL BOARD. HER TEACHING PRACTICE FOCUSES ON THE CREATIVE AND TECHNICAL ABILITIES OF TEENAGERS.
As a professional teacher/artist/photographer Laura believes that everyone can be creative and witnesses everyday in her classroom the unique ideas and expression that improve the growth and well being of her students.
Laura has published articles, exhibited art, and lectured at other educational institutions and conferences. She is a Department Leader, been an executive on the BCATA and SATA and SAG advisory committees.
She won BC Art Teacher of the Year award in 2012.
Along with her UBC Secondary Teacher diploma she has a Studio Degree in Photography from UBC and an Interdisciplinary Art Degree from ECUAD. Laura won awards from ECUAD, UBC and received Canada Council Grants for art exhibitions across Canada.

Juxtaposing human design with nature’s design are concepts we have been juggling in the environment. These constructed images are merging these two concepts together. These images are metaphorically “filling in the gap” of what we don’t see.
